THE GAP
Industrial machines and specialized robots have automated individual operations for decades. But much of physical work still depends on people to connect them: moving tools and materials through changing environments, positioning them at the point of work, operating equipment, adapting to variation, and handling exceptions.
Humanoid robots expand the range of automatable work because much of the built world is designed around the human body.
But one human-like form cannot be optimal across mobility, reach, payload, stability, access, force, and scale. A body designed to move through a building is not the same body best suited to inspect confined spaces, excavate, or carry extreme loads.
Protocol R's mission is to develop the minimum sufficient family of broadly capable robotic bodies required to cover most physical work across major industries.
Each body is broadly useful on its own. Multiple bodies can work together when a job requires complementary capabilities.
The unit of interaction is the job, not the robot anymore.
PRO 1
PRO 1 is the first embodiment in that system.
It initially addresses point-of-work logistics in construction, where skilled workers still spend significant time moving tools, materials, and components through environments that conventional automation cannot reliably navigate.
PRO 1 moves through stairs, clutter, narrow passages, temporary surfaces, and changing layouts to fetch, carry, deliver, stage, and position what workers need at the point of work.
This reduces waiting, repetitive manual handling, and skilled time consumed by internal logistics.
BEYOND MATERIAL DELIVERY
Material delivery is the first job, not the limit of the body.
The same PRO 1 embodiment is designed to expand into loading and unloading, kitting and staging, component positioning, installation support, tool and machine operation, inspection, maintenance, and exception handling.
Where other work requires fundamentally different mobility, manipulation, payload, access, or scale, Protocol R adds another embodiment.
Protocol R is building toward a physical labor system in which general intelligence acts through the body, or combination of bodies, best suited to the objective.
Humans specify the objective and supervise exceptions.
Robots execute the work.
